Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a difficult year, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his first trophy after the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from March of that year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has won 21 victories at 21 distinct events.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a title is particularly special," said world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his last six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to approach the net and perform assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to create a third set.

He saved four early-game chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
