Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look out of place, but the events of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the team reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Strategists parties.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
